I picked up the new Nas album recently after catching his performance of “Sly Fox” on The Colbert Report. It takes a lot to impress me as far as rap and hip-hop goes; more so than other genres it seems. I’m about six songs into the album and so far I am quite impressed. It’s smart, slick, and witty with two scoops of political commentary. It is an excellent album.

You guys have given me so much good music, it's time to give a bit back.

Lamb - Gorecki )

I had never heard of these folks before, but I happened to bump into the song on an episode of
"Buffy: The Vampire Slayer"
Torchwood of all places. Anyway, you musically inclined folks on my f-list may have known about this UK act for years, but they're new to me. I hope you like the song as much as I do.

Thanks again to everyone for the great music suggestions yesterday (and today). I ordered so much music today, it's scary. Actually it's not that bad really. Here's the list:

Opeth - Blackwater Park
Leo Kottke - One Guitar, No Vocals
Black Star, Talib Kweli, and Mos Def - Black Star
Tom Waits - Real Gone
David Bowie - The Man Who Sold the World

If I didn't buy something you suggested, I assure you it's only because I have a problem with dropping two hundred dollars on CDs at once. This should be enough to get me started on listening to something other than lots of VNV Nation.

While I deeply love my beepy dancity dance music, lately I've been craving something different. I realized that I desperately missed guitar...no no real guitar, not synthesized guitar. I've been getting reacquainted with Jeff Buckley, and recently introduced myself to Johnny Cash and David Bowie (they were missing from my music collection). While Ziggy Stardust is awesome, I need *more* people!

So now I put you, my good friends, to task. I need you to pick something out of your own music collection that isn't EBM (all other genres are game). Bear in mind two things:

1. I like just about everything
2. While my tastes are eclectic, I've had relatively limited musical exposure (I only just picked up "Ziggy Stardust") so even if you think "He *must* already know this band," it's entirely possible that I don't...so suggest away.

That's pretty much it. I'm interested in everyone's suggestions, since I know many of you have veritable libraries of music.

Feel free to disregard this post if you're not interested in new music. I know however that quite a few of you will enjoy this stuff.

Arab-Appalachian Music )

That's it for my band spam. They're worth checking out if you're interested in something non-goth/non-rock.
